Insecure S3.01 — Better-Like

We’re finally back with Issa & Molly for another season of Insecure and I couldn’t be happier. The “previously on” encapsulated both the first & second season because, at the heart of it, Insecure is about growth.

Throughout the past two seasons, Issa & Molly have been tiptoeing the line between stable & messy, even as their friends around them grow up. They’ve been looking for love in the wrong places, prioritizing the wrong things (mostly boys), and fighting with one another when really what they needed was to lean on each other.

Last season, we saw Molly have a bit of a breakthrough when she went against a common stigma in the black community and began going to therapy. She figured out how important it was to put herself first, get out of her toxic law firm, and find boundaries.

This season starts with a whole new Molly. She’s on vacation, banging a vacation boy, and when she returns, she begins the process of de-cluttering her life. The situation with Dro was messy all of last season. I mean, she’s banging her very close friend who is married to her other close friend.

It seems like he has more feelings for her than she does for him because when she tries to take a step back, he freaks out. He’s being selfish, though, and Molly is not here for that bullshit anymore. This is going to be the season of Molly and I am ready for it.

Issa, on the other hand, is still facing the backlash of her season-long spiral last year. Homeless and living on Daniel’s couch, she has to listen to him have very loud sex or go out and drive for Lyft in peak LA drunkenness hours. She has been demoted at work, despite being the only black employee at the non-profit meant to help black & brown kids.

Her relationship with Daniel is undefined, but after she rejected his attempted kiss, it seems like they are not going down a romantic road anytime soon. Is she going to go after the hot guy who got in her Lyft and didn’t mind that she changed the location? Or maybe this season is more about Issa getting back up to speed in her job. It seems like we won’t see much, if any, Lawrence this season, which is only sad because Jay Ellis is so hot.

Looking forward to seeing how the girls know better & do better this time around. Keep reading each week to see how it goes.
